Patrick Fernbach to Speak at DBIA OVR Virtual Design & Construction Panel
Patrick Fernbach, PE, WELL AP, principal, director of mechanical engineering at Kohrs Lonnemann Heil Engineers, Inc. (KLH Engineers), will be participating in a Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Ohio Valley Region (OVR) panel discussion titled “Leveraging Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) in Design-Build.” The event will be held Feb. 28, 2024, 4:30 p.m. EST at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Building information modeling (BIM) enables a highly collaborative VDC process throughout a project’s lifecycle. The whole team approach in design-build is an ideal environment for BIM and VDC to thrive, especially when there is an integrated project team where the client’s goals can be incorporated from the start.
The team of panelists will explore how integrating BIM and VDC into a design-build project delivery model produces enhanced design excellence, increases quality and productivity, and improves lifecycle cost. Design-build will also be compared to traditional project delivery methods to demonstrate how contractual barriers are removed and project teams can freely share and collaborate with their data rich, three-dimensional models. Owners will discover how to best set expectations for the leverage and delivery of BIM on projects.
Fernbach’s co-panelists include Rich Pontius, AIA, VP of Design Management at Marker Construction and Ohio Valley Past President; Andy Burg, Operations Technology Solutions VP, Messer Construction; and Ashely Barnes, BIM Manager, GBBN. Brian Skripac, DBIA, CM-BIM – Director, Virtual Design & Construction, Design-Build Institute of America, will serve as the moderator.
