Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport ConRAC

The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) identified the need to consolidate their rental car operations in response to the needs of the airport’s rental car agencies and optimizing the passenger experience. Early in the project, KLH worked closely with PGAL, the Architect of Record, in developing a detailed preliminary plan that examined the best construction delivery method to build the new complex. Once the Kenton County Airport Board determined that Construction Management at Risk was the best form of delivery, the design team began developing final plans for the $175-million project.

The new 1.57 million-square-foot consolidated rent-a-car (ConRAC) facility includes a customer service building connected to the main terminal, housing 11 rental car company service desks, offices and future airline ticketing spaces. Phase I included the realignment of the main entrance roadway into the airport, as well as the relocation of all underground site utilities. The 2,710-space parking garage includes a ready/return area, quick turnaround facility, fueling stations, and other essential amenities.

KLH provided comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and technology design, along with the underground electrical utility relocation and CxA services. Additionally, KLH developed a full-service lighting design strategy for the exterior façades, ensuring exceptional results while carefully managing the material budget.
